Bilco Basement door transformation
In this project, I was tasked with enhancing the exterior entrance to a client's basement. The initial goal was to replace an old and weathered basement hatch surround with a more durable and aesthetically pleasing masonry solution.
The Challenge
The existing bilco door leading to the basement was surrounded by a mixture of aging brick and cement that had deteriorated over time. The challenge was to remove the old materials and install a new, robust stone base that would not only improve the appearance but also provide long-lasting durability.
“I highly recommend Brett if you’re looking for any professional masonry!”
My Approach
To address these challenges, I started by carefully removing the old brick and cement surrounding the basement hatch. Once the area was cleared, I prepared the foundation for the new stone base. Selecting high-quality beligum block, I meticulously installed them to ensure a solid and visually appealing structure. Regular communication with the client ensured that their vision and expectations were fully met throughout the process.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The transformation was remarkable. The before images show the old, worn-out brick and cement surround, which lacked both durability and aesthetic appeal. The after images reveal a beautifully crafted stone base that significantly enhances the entrance to the basement. The new stonework not only provides a sturdy foundation but also complements the overall look of the home's exterior.
CLIENT’S ENDORSEMENT
The clients' satisfaction with the work was encapsulated in their kind words:
"I highly recommend Brett if you’re looking for any professional masonry! He was a pleasure to work with and did a wonderful job."
CONCLUSION
This front steps restoration project underscores my commitment to quality and client satisfaction. The new steps not only resolved a significant safety issue but also enhanced the home's aesthetic appeal. It was a pleasure to work with the client and deliver a result that met their needs and expectations.
