Front Stone Stair Restoration: Better Than New
This project centered on restoring a set of deteriorating front steps that had become both a safety concern and a visual detractor from an otherwise beautiful home exterior in Wanamassa, New Jersey. The homeowners reached out to Earth & Mortar seeking a solution that would not only address the structural wear of the stairs but also elevate the overall curb appeal of their property.
The Challenge
The original steps were worn down by time and exposure to the elements, with mismatched repairs and uneven stonework detracting from both function and form. The landing area lacked a cohesive aesthetic, and the stair edges showed signs of crumbling. The homeowner was looking for a durable, safe, and polished result that would integrate seamlessly with the home’s stone façade and surrounding features.
“Our front steps are now better than new…”
My Approach
I began with a full assessment of the existing masonry, identifying structural weaknesses and areas where water damage had contributed to wear. After carefully dismantling the old steps, I selected natural stone slabs that aligned with the home’s color scheme and architectural character. Each stone was measured and cut for a precise fit, creating a uniform and clean look while ensuring long-lasting durability.
The risers were faced with a mix of cool-toned stone veneer, adding both texture and dimension.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The difference between the original stairs and the finished result is immediately apparent. The new steps are solid, symmetrical, and visually cohesive with the home’s siding and garage area. In the before image, the steps appear worn and uneven, while the after image reveals a beautifully rebuilt staircase featuring crisp stone lines and a refined landing. This transformation not only improved the entryway’s appearance but significantly enhanced its safety and functionality.
CLIENT’S ENDORSEMENT
