Brick Walkway Rebuild with a Clean, Polished Finish

This featured project focused on rebuilding and refining a curved brick walkway leading to the front steps of a residential home in Wall, NJ. The homeowner’s goal was to clean up the path’s appearance, restore the brick layout, and refresh the surrounding landscaping for a neater, more polished first impression. Over time, shifting and erosion had dulled the impact of the original installation. This project called for a careful hand, attention to alignment, and a clean finish to match the quality of the home’s exterior.

The Challenge

The original brick walkway had settled unevenly over the years, and organic debris had begun collecting in the joints, giving the once-attractive entrance a weathered and unkempt look. The mulch beds on either side were fading, and the edging between the pavers and landscape was indistinct. The challenge was to rework the entire pathway without compromising its charm — and do so in a way that would hold up for years to come.

“Exceeded our expectations! Neat work, great team by Brett and Faith”

My Approach

As with any masonry restoration, I began by evaluating the foundation and confirming that the brick path could be reset and realigned properly. My team and I lifted and relaid the pavers in a tight herringbone pattern, sharpening the curved border with more defined edge bricks. We re-established the base where needed, adjusted the elevation to avoid future shifting, and cleaned the joints for a crisp finish. Faith managed mulch reinstallation and plant touchups with precision, helping blend the walkway naturally back into the refreshed landscape.

THE TRANSFORMATION

Take a look at the before and after images.

Before:
The first image shows the original walkway, with visible plant overgrowth and loosened joint filler between the bricks. The edge definition had faded, and dark mulch had lost its contrast against the bricks.

After:
The second image highlights the completed work — crisp, clean lines, fresh joint sand, clear separation between the mulch beds and bricks, and an overall sharper look. We reinstated the black mulch beds and ensured uniform spacing of the existing bushes and lights to enhance symmetry. The result is a smooth, upgraded approach to the home that feels intentional and high-end without being overbuilt.

CLIENT’S ENDORSEMENT

The homeowner’s feedback reflects their delight with the project:

CONCLUSION

This walkway restoration project reflects our belief that small upgrades — when done right — can have a big impact. Clean masonry, sharp edges, and thoughtful landscaping brought this home’s entrance back to life. It was a pleasure working with these homeowners, and we’re proud they felt our work exceeded expectations.
